Twas the week before Halloween, and on the West Side, many rockers did gather for a Zombie Hellride. October 20th was another great event at Ace Motorcycle in Chicago, Aye-El. After a cold and very wet ride through two states, I pulled into the parking lot a bit after noon. I am always amazed at some of the choice bikes people bring out. This time, though, I got a few dropped jaws- I was one of the few who reallygot into the, uh, Holiday Spirit and painted my face up. Not that I mind havingmy picture taken. But back to the stuff you care about- the bikes and theriders. An amazingly clean 1950 Triumph T-Bird was ridden, and even left after two kicks. The bike of the day, though, was a bold, brass bobber by Analog Motorcycles of Gurnee, Illinois. As usual, custom caffies and bobs were popular the entire afternoon. As usual, the beer flowed and the laughs yucked up. Even the weather cooperated the whole day, a little victory in and of itself.
The afternoon was filled with music by Miss Fists and the Astro Zombies, who, after their Misfits set, did great renditions of other classics. They kept the energy rolling, and, were it up to the crowd, they’d have played quite a while longer.Trophies were awarded, then a Hellride went off across Lake Shore Drive over to“The Haunted Mausoleum” Haunted House on Fullerton. Afterwards, everyone went over to The Holiday Club on Sheridan. A usual hangout for the Ton-Ups, it’s a great place with some awesome décor. Burlesque by Vaudezilla had everyone’s eyes for two sets. It was a great conclusion to another fun event.
Not that the club is ever gonna let the party end- they’ve just reopened The Urban Hooligan Gallery and are hosting a Hell Night party there. If you haven’t seen the artwork there, get on over. It’s always a riot in Chicago.
Thanks to Ace Motorcycle and Scooter Co., Ton-Up Chicago, and all the event participants. Photos here!
